Whistlestop’s Jackson Café, across from the bus depot in central San Rafael, is a collaboration with Homeward Bound of Marin’s Fresh Starts Culinary Academy. Meals are prepared by Fresh Starts culinary students and served by Whistlestop volunteers. Jackson Café is open to the public and offers a wonderful place to relax and enjoy lunch with friends. The meals are fresh, affordable, and delicious. The daily menu includes a hot main entrée, soup du jour and a variety of other favorite lunch dishes.

Jackson Café is open to the public, MondayFriday, 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. Prices for entrées for Whistlestop members are $6.00, and for non-members $8.00.

The restaurant kitchen and dining room are also available for rental and catering. The central San Rafael location is ideal for club breakfast meetings, wedding receptions, anniversaries, birthday parties and corporate events.  For more information, please contact us. Jackson CaféYou may have seen the rave reviews about the Jackson Cafe’s delicious, fresh food. We are happy to custom cater breakfast, lunch, or receptions on-site at Whistlestop’s Active Aging Center for your group. Each group has special needs, so menus and pricing are determined specifically for you.

Typical catered menus:

Breakfast – Eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes, yogurt, fresh fruit, homemade scones, cereals, oatmeal, orange and cranberry juices, coffee and hot tea. Lunch – Special entrees, deli sandwiches, salads, soup, burgers, iced tea, sodas, and desserts. Do you publish a monthly menu?

In order to offer seasonal specialties, we think it is best to remain flexible and take advantage of what is fresh and looking good on a weekly basis.

Who is the chef?

His name is Luis Realpozo and he joined us in November 2014. Whistlestop embarked on a strategic partnership with Homeward Bound of Marin to operate the Jackson Café. This enabled us to offer fresh, nutritious, delicious, and creative meal selections while offering on-the-job training to graduates of Homeward Bound’s Fresh Starts Culinary Academy.

Is Jackson Café only for seniors?

Not at all!  Everyone is welcome to enjoy our very affordable meals.

What are your hours?

The Jackson Café is open weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 11:30am – 2:00 pm. (Please place order by 1:50 pm.)

Can I order take-out?  

Yes, no problem. We suggest that you bring your own reusable bag as a great way to reduce waste.

Do people with developmental disabilities qualify for the discounted price?

Yes, if they are 60 or better. Our price break is based on age.

How do I ensure a seat at the monthly Special Luncheons?

Please drop by the front office to purchase a ticket. These popular monthly events, from Oktoberfest to Thanksgiving dinner, fill up quickly because of the great meals and wonderful entertainment.

Do you rent the Jackson Café for private events?

Yes. The facility is available for morning, evening and weekend rentals for both the dining room and the commercial kitchen. Please contact us for details. [tab:Menu]
